 2017 Preview 


       St. James completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. Last year St. James captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. St. James reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Tallassee by a score of 42-14.

       The Trojans won as many games as in any season since 1985.

       Since 2010, St. James has gone a combined 46-30. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, St. James has managed to compile a record of 151-131. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 4A and 146th in the AHSAA.

       The Trojans are led by head coach Jimmy Perry who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 34-21 over the past five seasons at St. James. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Perry.

       Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 99-53 (65.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won seven region championships.

       Coach Perry can top the 100 win milestone early in the season with just one more victory.

       The St. James Trojans will play in Class 4A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Trojans enter the 2017 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak.

       The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

      Josh Garnett returns for his Senior season after completing 43 of 84 passes for 703 yards and 11 touchdowns.

      Junior Tony Amerson also returns after rushing for 1,067 yards on 137 carries and scoring 8 touchdowns.

      The defense returns Junior cornerback Collin Duncan who gathered in 5 interceptions along with Senior cornerback Tyler Robertson who got 3 interceptions last year.

       The Trojans open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, August 25 at Carlisle Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 8-5 and in third place in Class 3A region one. The Admirals lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Gordo by a score of 55-21.

       St. James and Bayside Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 2-2-0 record against the Admirals. They last met in 2016 with St. James winning by a score of 21-0.
